I decided to start this as an online diary of our adventures as well as a way for a few people to follow along with us if they are interested. For our big summer trip to the Badlands and the Black Hills I have decided to mostly disconnect so will not be posting on social media.
A little history behind our trip. About a year and a half ago, we decided that it might be fun to meet my Dad and Gail somewhere for a camping trip. After doing a little research and taking into consideration both of our home locations we settled on meeting in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I did A LOT of research and narrowed down the campsites to two options in Custer State Park, Blue Bell and Game Lodge. We ultimately decided on Game Lodge due to the proximity to amenities and number of activities that the boys could engage in independently. We booked 365 days in advance to ensure that we got prime campsites next to each other. We'll stay there for a week and will visit various other locations on our way to and from Custer State Park.
I like doing things a little old school and want to have a bigger picture than navigation systems allow so I ordered a 2019 Rand McNally Road Atlas. You'll see our route highlighted in orange. We are ambitiously planning on driving from Florida to eastern South Dakota in two days with our two boys, Aidan (14) and Aaron (12) along with our two dogs, Fred (yellow lab) and Dizzy (toy australian shepherd.) I'm realistic enough to know that it will most likely not be an entirely peaceful trip so we have planned a few days of decompression before meeting up with my Dad and Gail.
Yes, I have a whole binder full of plans complete with page protectors.
I'll try to log in daily to share little snip-its of our adventure if I have connectivity. We are about a week out so this is my trial run on Aidan's little laptop to make sure I could use it to access pictures from my digital camera. Success!
I too had a binder complete with page protectors and was oh so glad I did after my phone fell off the counter on our first day of our trip!
